Community service is an important aspect of the Expedition Academy. Students are encouraged and given opportunities to provide service not only within the school, but outside in the surrounding community. Each year students will select a community service project that they will facilitate and complete during the school year. This component of the academy will enable the students to see first hand the importance of service, encompassing many of the 10 Guiding Principles during the year.
Along the way, students will have the opportunity to work closely with other people in the community that are involved in service work. Partnerships include work with the Urban Forestry program at Roosevelt High School. Moreover, the academy has formed a partnership with the Buckeye Trail Association. Academy students will have multiple opportunities to work with teams that are helping to construct and maintain a hiking trail in North Eastern Ohio wilderness. Many other opportunities for local and semi-local community service projects of the students choosing will take place.
