Students in the Expedition Academy will have several opportunities to participate in outdoor expeditions all designed to meet the skills listed on the preceding page. The objective of such experiences is to provide students with wilderness skills training and leadership.
The schedule of the trips during the year is as follows: each semester students will have the opportunity to participate on trips. The trips will primarily consist of backpacking, but may include other outdoor adventures as well such as white-water rafting. Trips range from day trips to overnight adventures to three days and two night excursions and focus on backpacking as a way to build a foundation of basic wilderness skills. Distances hiked normally cover around thirty miles of trail. Out of all of the trips offered during the year, students are encouraged to attend as many as they can. Destinations are typically focused in the Pennsylvania wilderness but also includes other locations including Georgia, New York, Tennessee, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Virginia.
